Not your “typical” PICK A WORD

Pick a word for the year.

What is the first thought that pops into your mind when you read that? 😉

Some might love it. Some might loathe it. But let’s flip the script…just like we love to have you do in our office.

Instead of picking a word for the year to come, we want to encourage you to pick some words that are a reflection of this past year.

Projecting ahead to the year to come has proven to be great tool for some. For others, it can produce uncertainness. In Matthew 6:34 (AMPC), Jesus says, “So do not worry or be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will have worries and anxieties of its own…” Let’s leave tomorrow, AND next year in His hands. Instead, let’s…REMEMBER! Throughout Scripture, there are many times when remembering was key. From the Israelites at the Red Sea and the Jordan River, to David in the Psalms to Jesus at Passover to Peter and Jude helping people remember.

So, before the year comes to a close, take time to reflect and remember. Let your heart and mind remember different aspects of this past year. Maybe go a month at a time. Or think about the “big” moments. Walk through your memories of the holidays, trips, weekend outings, other events. Reflect on the highs and lows. This time of year, your Spotify or YouTube might give you our personal “year in review”. Those songs could be another fun way to remember your year.   

Then, pick words to represent the memories, the moments, the months. Be intentional about having your words span the spectrum of what we would think of as negative all the way to positive. Some words might invoke heartache, while others will fill you with joy. Remember how God lived in all of it!

At the end of this remembering, reflection time, you’ll have a beautiful bank of words to carry with you into 2026!
